Kansas City Monarchs News Release
WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones led early Wednesday, but the Wingnuts erased the lead and went on to win, 10-4, their sixth straight.
In the top of the first, Matt Padgett connected on his 15th home run of the season and gave Kansas City a 1-0 lead. It would be a brief one.
Thanks to a leadoff walk to Ryan Khoury and starter Connor Graham (0-1) hitting Jake Kahaulelio with a pitch, the Wingnuts scored twice and never relinquished the lead.
Wichita scattered eight more runs over the following seven frames, including a four-run seventh inning, as the Wingnuts took game one of the four-game series.
Outfielder Luis Rivera, who signed with Kansas City earlier on Wednesday, went two for four with a double and a run scored.
The loss breaks Kansas City's two-game winning streak, and extends Wichita's six-game winning streak.
Kansas City (19-33) and Wichita will play the second game of the four-game home-and-home series on Thursday night at 7:05 at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.
