Wichita 10, Kansas City 4
Jared McDonald's big night at the plate and a lengthy outing from starter Christopher M. Smith added up to a 10-4 win for Wichita. Hitting at the bottom of the order, McDonald led the Wingnuts with three RBI. He also doubled as part of a 3-for-4 night.
Smith picked up his fifth win of the season with a seven-inning performance. The righty gave up two home runs and did not work a perfect inning. However, Smith only scattered three runs in three separate innings in the winning effort.
Lincoln 12, Amarillo 3
Curt Smith, Matt Forgatch and Sean O'Connell combined to trounce the Sox, 12-3. Forgatch and O'Connell each contributed three RBI and O'Connell went deep, but Smith had the most impressive night of all the Saltdogs hitters. The four-hitter drove in two runs with a double and later on hit a two-run homer.
While that trio led Lincoln's offense, Pete Parise shut down Amarillo over seven innings. He held the Sox to three runs and struck out five to notch his sixth win of the season.
Sioux Falls 6, Sioux City 3
The Canaries had to break a tie score twice, but prevailed over Sioux City, 6-3. Cory Morales delivered the decisive knock in the bottom of the seventh. His RBI single scored Nick Van Stratten, erasing a 3-3 tie and ultimately winning the game for the Canaries.
Sioux Falls took an initial 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Explorers battled back in the fourth. The X's took the lead that inning with RBI singles from Yusuke Inoguchi and Sam Judah. But, the nature of the game was back-and-forth all night, and the Canaries knotted the score with a Marcos Rodriguez sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the frame.
Rodriguez later gave the Canaries the lead with a single in the sixth, but the X's tied the score on an error the very next half inning. Finally, Morales came through in the bottom of the seventh and Sioux Falls tacked on two insurance runs to secure the win.
