Wichita Closer Signs with Tampa Bay Rays

The American Baseball Association continues to produce quality players as they announce the tenth player this season to sign with a Major League organization. Pitcher Justin Dowdy, who visited Pensacola last week with the Wichita Wingnuts, recently signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. The southpaw will depart to the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits.

Last week against the Pelicans, Dowdy recorded two saves for the Wingnuts with 1.3 innings pitched, allowing just one hit in his two appearances at Pelican Park.

Dowdy ranks third in the American Association with 17 saves and has struck out 42 hitters in 26.0 IP. The San Diego, CA native is in his 10th season of professional baseball. The 26-year old lefty has struck out the side five different times this season and is six strikeouts shy of 600 for his career. Tampa Bay becomes Dowdy's fifth stop in affiliated ball. The veteran lefty has also spent time with the White Sox, Mariners, Angels, and Athletics.

The Pelicans will be back at Pelican Park August 6 for a three-game home stand. Tickets are very affordable beginning at $6.
