Special Weekend to Have Big Splash, Concerts, Community Event

Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release


SHREVEPORT, La. - The Shreveport-Bossier Captains are in the midst of a nine-game, 10-day, season-long homestand, and have a special weekend set up for their series against the El Paso Diablos.

First off, it is Big Splash Weekend, featuring free water games and slides from Party Central Family Fun Center in the SWEPCO/Party Central Family Fun Park down the rightfield line at Fair Grounds Field for no additional cost. It is a great way to beat the heat and also enjoy the Captains games.

Friday and Saturday's games, which are both at 7:05 p.m., feature postgame concerts. Friday night is KSLA-12 Faith and Family Night with a Christian concert, while Saturday night has a show from The Lost Boys Band. With Saturday night being Heineken/98 Rocks Jersey off Our Back Night, the Captains have announced that they will expand the promotion to offer two-dollar Heinekens during the game and the concert afterwards.

The Captains are also getting out in the community this weekend. Several players will join tmentors and their mentees from area mentoring programs to volunteer with the Fuller Center for Housing, as part of Mentor-Mentee Service Day as a segment of the United Way's month long series of events to promote mentoring.

On Saturday area youth and their mentors will give the volunteer reception area at the Fuller Center a face lift while working alongside some of their favorite Captains' players.

The Shreveport-Bossier Mentoring Partnership convened by United Way of Northwest Louisiana will be also be hosting a "Mentee Rally" at Camp Forbing with Shreveport City Marshal Charlie Caldwell on August 14th and "Bring Your Mentee to Work Day" on August 17th. Youth ages 12-17 can sign up to participate in these events by having their parent or guardian call the Volunteer Center at 318-677-2504 ext. 23.
