St. Paul Saints News Release

LINCOLN, NE (August 5, 2010) - The loudest the St. Paul Saints offense got on Thursday night at Haymarket Park was when outfielder Josh Alley came storming out of the dugout in the sixth inning and started jawing with Lincoln Saltdogs first baseman Juan Camacho as the benches cleared. The rest of the night the offense didn't do much as they lost their fourth consecutive game 6-2.

The Saints actually took a 1-0 lead in the first when Alley singled and with two outs Jason Cooper was hit by a pitch. Ole Sheldon dropped an RBI single into right-center giving the Saints a 1-0 lead. That would be two of their four hits on the night and the last lead they would hold.

In the bottom of the first the Saltdogs answered right back as Gavin Dickey led off with an infield single and scored on Rafael Alvarez' double tying the game at one. With one out Juan Richardson knocked home Alvarez with a single to center giving the Saltdogs a 2-1 lead, a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

In the third the Saltdogs took a 3-1 lead as Rafael Alvarez walked, went to second on a balk and scored on a Roberto Alvarez single.

In the sixth the Saints would get to within 3-2, but not before Alley was tossed from the game. Alley led off by flying out left. With the count 1-0 on Josh Burrus, the newest member of the Saints, Alley came racing out of the dugout while yelling at Camacho. The benches and bullpens cleared, but no punches were thrown. Burrus wound up walking, stealing second and going to third on a wild pitch. Edgard Clemente would score Burrus on a groundout.

The Saltdogs put the game away in the bottom of the sixth sending nine men to the plate. With one out Brandon Jones singles and scored on a double from Pat Trettel. Albenis Machado singled him to third and a fielder's choice ground out scored Trettel making it 5-2. A single by Gavin Dickey and an intentional walk to Rafael Alvarez loaded the bases for Roberto Alvarez. He battled reliever Jon Plefka for 15 pitches and drew a walk to force in a run.

The Saints went from the third inning until a Clemente double in the ninth without a hit and had their second lowest hit total of the season (they've been three hit twice this season).

The same two teams meet Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Haymarket Park. The Saints send RHP Jake Schmidt (8-5, 4.19) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP John James (3-0, 4.20). The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
