WHL to Sponsor AAA All-Star Series

Calgary – Ron Robison, Commissioner, Western Hockey League announced today the WHL has entered into agreements to serve as an official sponsor of the Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League for the next three seasons.

The new agreements will include the WHL serving as an official sponsor of the Annual Midget AAA All Star Games in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, which showcases the finest hockey players at this age level in Western Canada.

This year's Midget AAA All Star Games have been scheduled as follows:

Alberta Sun. Jan.18 Calgary 1:00 PM Father Bauer Arena

Saskatchewan Sat. Jan.24 Swift Current 2:00 PM Centennial Arena

In addition to sponsoring the annual All Star Game, the WHL will also provide support to the Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba AAA Midget League throughout the course of the season. In Saskatchewan and Manitoba, the WHL will provide the Player of the Month awards while in Alberta the WHL will serve as sponsor of the player selected to first All Star Team.

In addition to being a leading provider of scholarships to our players, the WHL is fully committed to continue supporting the development system in Western Canada. Given that the majority of players who graduate to the WHL are products of the Midget AAA Leagues, we are pleased to assist with their development in any way we can," stated Ron Robison, WHL Commissioner.

A Midget AAA League will be introduced for the first time next season in British Columbia. The WHL has indicated to the BC Amatuer Hockey Association that it will support the new Midget AAA League when it is introduced during the 2004-05 season.
