WhiteWings Work in and out of Jams to Win

San Angelo - Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings pitchers stranded 14 San Angelo Colts on-base in a 4-3 win tonight at Foster Field.

The WhiteWings are now winners of four-straight.

The WhiteWings (39-40) got on the board right away against Brett Lester (4-4). With one out, Joaquin Rodriguez singled. One out later, Brian Nichols doubled, Rico Santana hit a two-run double and Juan Cabrera hit an RBI-triple to make it 3-0.

The Colts (47-32) tried to respond against Juan Peralta (3-4) in the bottom of the inning, putting runners at second and third with one out, but Selwyn Langaigne and Jason Landreth struck out swinging to end the threat.

The Colts loaded the bases in the second with two outs, but Hunter Jobes lined out to deep leftfield.

In the fourth, John Anderson and Nick Mahin hit leadoff singles and moved to third and second on a passed ball. Hank Lanto struck out, Charley Belew flied out to shallow leftfield and Ronnie Gaines popped out to third to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Santana and Cabrera drew two out walks in the fifth and Jose Torres hit an RBI-single to make it 4-0.

The Colts loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the inning, but Mahin struck out swinging.

Wendy Rosa took over in the bottom of the sixth and allowed the Colts to load the bases with one out, but Bryan Frichter grounded into a double play to end the inning.

The Colts finally broke through in the seventh. Rosa walked Langaigne and Landreth to leadoff the inning. Jose Fragoso came in and allowed a one-out two-run double to Mahin to make it 4-2.

Julio picked up his league-leading 19th save of the season, but not without drama. With two outs, Anderson walked and Mahin singled. Travis Calloway hit a pinch-hit RBI-double, but Mahin was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

The WhiteWings and Colts close out the regular season tomorrow night at 7:05. Left-hander Carlos Artiles (2-4) is expected to face right- hander Caleb Rodgers (0-0).
