San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas---After the San Angelo Colts (47-31) said goodbye to Ezequiel Astacio, who has joined the Chicago Cubs organization, the Colts welcome left-handed starter Richard Salazar to bolster the pitching staff. Salazar has been acquired from the Shreveport-Bossier Captains of the American Association (AA) for future considerations.

In Salazar's 2009 campaign, the southpaw has collected a 5-1 record, with an impressive 3.16 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .256 against the Left hander.

The Venezuelan native is in his eighth year of professional baseball. Salazar's career began in 2001 when he was selected in the 13th round by the Baltimore Orioles. Within the Orioles organization, Salazar reached as high as triple-A in 2007. The lefty's career mark is 21-16, with a 3.75 earned run average.

Colts general manager Mike Babcock spoke with an American Association GM that said, "Richard Salazar was the top left-handed pitcher in the AA."

The signing of Salazar could not come at a better time as the Colts are just two regular season games away from beginning the playoffs. San Angelo has already nailed down the regular season top spot, and will enter the playoffs with home-field advantage the entire way.

San Angelo and Rio Grande Valley will continue their four game series today at Foster Field. Sunday's promotion will be Back to School Kits sponsored by Texas 211. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm, gates will open at 4:05. The Kemps pre-game show will begin at 6:50 pm.
