San Angelo Colts News Release

The San Angelo Colts (47-31) are excited to announce the Chicago Cubs have purchased the contract of Colts starter Ezequiel Astacio. The right-hander is scheduled to join the Cubs Triple-A farm club located in Des Moines, Iowa.

In Astacio's first year as a Colt, the Dominican Republic native boasted a 9-1 record, reaching a 3.86 earned run average. In 77 innings of work, Astacio punched out 62 hitters while making 14 starts.

Prior to his season with San Angelo, Zeke appeared in 28 Major League Baseball games. In 2005, when the Astros reached the World Series, Astacio started 14 times in 22 appearances. He only walked 25 batters while striking out 66 in 81 innings pitched. Throughout his career, the pitcher is 61-43 with a 3.95 ERA. Astacio has pitched for the Astros, Phillies and Rangers organizations. Last season, he played in the Pacific Coast League affiliate, for the Rangers, where he went 3-5 in 52.1 innings tossed.

Although the Colts are fast approaching the playoffs as the number one seed, San Angelo's skipper Doc Edwards says one of his main priorities is to help his player's chase their dreams. "This is how we operate in San Angelo. If our player's have a dream of playing organizational ball, and a team shows interest, it's our job to give them that opportunity," Said Edwards.

San Angelo and Rio Grande Valley will continue their four game series today at Foster Field. Sunday's promotion will be Back to School Kits sponsored by Texas 211. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm, gates will open at 4:05. The Kemps pre-game show will begin at 6:50 pm.
