Colts drop Home Series For the First Time

San Angelo, Texas---The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (39-40) became the first team to take a home series away from the San Angelo Colts ( 47-32) this season. The 4-3 WhiteWings victory moved the Colts losing streak to three games.

San Angelo's starter Brett Lester was battered by Rio Grande Valley in the top of the first. The offense began with a Joaquin Rodriguez single. Brian Nichols and Rico Santana each collected doubles. The third consecutive extra-base hit was a triple from Juan Cabrera. When the top-half of the first inning concluded, WhiteWings were up three.

The offense of the Colts scuffled to come up with a clutch hit. After the completion of four innings, San Angelo had left seven runners on base.

With two away in the top of the fifth, two wild pitches brought Rico Santana, who reached on a walk, to third base. Jose Torres Sent a single through the box, trotting home was Santana. A four run lead in favor of the Wings was the result.

The Colts finally initiated their offense in the bottom of the seventh. Consecutive walks by Selwyn Langaign and Jason Landreth led to a one out double from Nick Mahin.. Both base runners came across as San Angelo cut the deficit in half.

San Angelo made a run for it in the ninth inning. With two outs, John Anderson walked and Nick Mahin singled before pinch hitter, Travis Calloway laced a double down the left-field line; Anderson scored, but Mahin was thrown out at the plate by shortstop, Joaquin Rodriguez, to end the contest.

Winning pitcher Juan Peralta (3-4) worked five innings, scattering six hits without giving up an earned run. Julio Santana nabbed his third save of the series, and his league leading 19th of the year. Brett Lester (4-4) took the loss reaching five innings, allowing four earned runs and eight hits, striking out four. Doug Brandt Contributed three scoreless innings. Jameson Maj shut down the Whitewings in the ninth.

Field manager, Doc Edwards, hopes to break the three game losing streak by sending right-hander, Caleb Rodgers (0-0, 1.50 ERA), to the rubber. Eddie Dennis counters with southpaw, Carlos Artiles (2-3, 3.25 ERA).

Tomorrow, the Colts hope to avoid a series sweep at the hands of the WhiteWings. First pitch is 7:05 between Rio Grande Valley and San Angelo while the gates open at 6:05.
