Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Edinburg - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings were swept by the Edinburg Roadrunners in their first four-game series of the season after a 4-0 loss on Tuesday.

The WhiteWings (2-4) had eight hits, two walks and two hit batsmen, but stranded nine runners on base. The WhiteWings are now losers of four-straight.

After David Corss (1-1) faced the minimum through two innings, the Roadrunners (5-1) scratched across a run in the third. Robert Matlock drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and, two batters later, scored on a single by Wilmer Pino.

Melvin Perez, Matlock and Adam Matosth led off the bottom of the fifth with singles to load the bases. Eddie Wilson hit an RBI-single, Pino hit a sacrifice fly and Felix Molina hit into an RBI-fielder's choice to make it 4-0.

That made a winner of Tim Haines (1-0), who pitched six shutout innings, scattering seven hits and one walk while striking out two.

Cross pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out three.

The WhiteWings travel to Veterans Field in Laredo for the first of four against the Laredo Broncos on Wednesday at 7:35 p.m. Right-hander Luis Montano (1-0) is expected to face right-hander Dimitri Camareno (0-1).
