Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas trailed 9-1 at one point in Tuesday's game, but controversial calls quelled the rally as the Dillas fell to the San Angelo Colts 13-11 in front of 1,891 at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Chris Nyman (0-2) got the loss as he went an out short of five innings and gave up nine of the 13 Colts runs. Colts starter Ezequiel Astacio (1-1) got the win, allowing five runs off six hits while striking out nine.
The Colts started the scoring in the first as Jason Landreth sent his first homerun of the season over the right field wall for a two-run Colts lead. Jermel Lomack brought the Dillas within a run with a leadoff triple and would score on a Joaquin Rodriguez groundout for a 2-1 deficit.
San Angelo kept piling on the runs with two in the second, one coming on a controversial double down the left field line that was heavily disputed by Dillas manager Brady Bogart. Arguing balls and strikes, Bogart was tossed in the third inning.
The Colts added four more in the third and one in the fifth for a 9-1 Colts lead.
Amarillo would put a few runs on the board in the fifth inning as TJ Warren and Cory Wine started off with singles, while Warren scored on an Adam De La Garza RBI double. Wine would come across on a Rodriguez RBI while De La Garza scored on an error for a 9-4 deficit.
Wine would hit another run across in the sixth, though the Colts fought back with three in the seventh for a 12-5 lead.
Another Rodriguez RBI brought Lomack home in the seventh inning to bring the score within six. In the eighth, Rodriguez singled home Warren and De La Cruz while a Carlos Figueroa single brought home Lomack and Rodriguez to cut the lead to two at 12-10.
Another controversial call came in the ninth as San Angelo's Jason Crosland tagged up on a sacrifice fly. Dillas players thought he left early, but neither umpire saw the play, which allowed the run to score. Amarillo brought home another run in the ninth and had two runners on, but the game ended in controversy when Lomack seemingly beat out an infield single, but was called out to end the game 13-11 in favor of the Colts.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 3-3, while the Colts improve to 3-3. Wednesday, Amarillo will travel to Edinburg to face the Roadrunners for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm.
