EDINBURG, Texas--- The Edinburg Roadrunners completed the four-game sweep of the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings with a 4-0 victory Tuesday afternoon for the annual Kids Day game with nearly 4,000 in attendance at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Tim Haines (1-0) picked up the win after pitching six scoreless innings and scattering seven hits.
Wilmer Pino got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single to center field that allowed Robert Matlock to score giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, three straight singles by Melvin Perez, Matlock, and Adam Matos loaded the bases for Eddie Wilson who followed with an RBI single to center field. With the bases still loaded, Pino hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Matlock to score and Matos to move to third. Felix Molina then hit an RBI fielder's choice scoring Matos from third extending the Roadrunners lead to 4-0.
Ricardo Serrano and Ray Silva combined for four innings of relief closing the ballgame with a final score of 4-0.
Edinburg (5-1) will start a four-game series against the Amarillo Dillas starting Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Mark DiBernardo (0-0) is expected to face Richard Jessup (0-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
