WhiteWings Sign Pitcher with AAA Experience

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today they have signed left-handed pitcher Carlos Artiles to pitch out of the bullpen.

Signed as an non-drafted free agent by the New York Yankees in 1997, he pitched in their farm system through 2005, reaching AAA Columbus in his final season.

For his career, Artiles is 15-17 with 15 saves and a 3.83 ERA. In 164 games (six starts), he has pitched 265.2 innings, allowing 262 hits and 160 walks while striking out 236 (eight strikeouts per nine innings).

His best season came in 2002 when he went 3-3 with 12 saves and a 2.38 ERA in 34 games for Greensboro (South Atlantic League, Class A) before getting promoted to Tampa (Florida State League, Class A Advanced).

The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas. In its fourth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Harlingen and San Angelo.
