Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today they have signed catcher Justin Holloway.
A native of Pasadena and a graduate of Texas Southern University, Holloway tried out for the WhiteWings during local tryouts on May 30 at Harlingen Field. Although he didn't get invited to Spring Training because the WhiteWings already had Danny Etkin and Ryan Kottke plus two other catchers in camp, field manager Eddie Dennis was impressed enough to keep Holloway's information on file.
After trading Etkin to San Angelo for Brian Nichols yesterday, the Dennis called Holloway to get him to join the WhiteWings.
Holloway hit .338 with seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 33 RBI as a senior in 2008. In 46 games, he walked 16 times and was hit by 11 pitches while striking out just 12 times in 136 at-bats.
Dennis was also impressed by Holloway's defensive skills, including a strong and accurate arm.
He will be in uniform tonight, wearing number 17.
