San Angelo Colts News Release

Edinburg, Texas--- The San Angelo Colts (12-6) put up three runs in the top of the first, and that was all the pitching staff would need as the Colts won their first game of the series over the Edinburg Roadrunners (8-10), with a final score of 6-2.

Colts leadoff hitter Bradley Goldsmith began the game with a hard groundball which traveled right between the legs of third baseman Carlos Hereaud, Goldsmith landed on second base. Jason Diaz did his job laying down a sacrifice bunt, moving Goldsmith to Third. Ronnie Gaines feathered a single into shallow centerfield scoring Goldsmith for the first run of the game. Bryan Frichter followed with a single as did Jason Landreth, loading the bases. With two outs, Hunter Jobes delivered as he sent a single into shallow right centerfield scoring Gaines and Frichter, giving the Colts a 3-0 lead.

The Roadrunners got on the board in the fifth inning as Nick Aranda delivered a single scoring Osiel Flores. Robert Matlock also singled in the Fifth and he would be driven home by a Vincent Blue double. Blue's fly ball, sent to centerfield, looked to be routine. However, Goldsmith lost it in the lights allowing one run to score. San Angelo held just a one run lead.

San Angelo responded in the following inning. Top of the sixth, Nick Mahin and Hunter Jobes reached base on back to back errors. Hank Lanto got a fastball he liked on the inner half sending it into the right field corner scoring Mahin and Jobes, handing the Colts a 5-2 lead. Four batters later, bases were full, Gaines lifted a fly ball to right centerfield, Lanto tagged from third and San Angelo went up 6-2.

In the Bottom of the seventh, two outs in the frame and the bases loaded, Jameson Maj struck out Carlos Hereaud who represented the tying run. The Roadrunners did not threaten the Colts lead the rest of the way.

Chandler Barnard (4-0) earned the win, working six and 2/3 innings, allowing no earned runs while striking out five. Tim Haines (2-1) took the loss, pitching seven innings, also not allowing a single earned run.

The Colts plated six runs while delivering nine hits. Bradley Goldsmith, Hunter Jobes, and Ronnie Gaines each had a pair of singles. Gaines and Jobes also added two RBI's each. Hank Lanto had the only extra base hit for San Angelo, His double in the sixth scored two.

The Colts and Roadrunners will continue their series tomorrow at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Each team has won a game, as game three's first pitch is set for 7:05.
