WhiteWings Rally Past Coyotes

Harlingen, TX - Every time the Edinburg Coyotes (41-49, 16-24) scored, the first half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (47-43, 18-22) answered as they came from behind again to win 4-3 tonight at Harlingen Field.

Eric Gonzalez was the first base runner against Joe Rogers, but he wasn't there long after launching a solo-home run with one out in the fourth to make it 1-0. It was Gonzalez's tenth home run.

Brian Nichols responded in the bottom of the frame with a solo-shot to left against Aaron Guerra to tie the game 1-1.

That was all the starters would allow.

Rogers ended up going seven innings and allowing one run on three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Guerra lasted five and a third innings before leaving with an apparent right arm injury. He allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts.

The Coyotes took the lead off Chris Gale (6-3) with one out in the eighth as Eric Gonzalez singled and stole second. He score on a Cameron McGuire single. He moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Nelson Teilon single to make it 3-1 Coyotes.

Like clockwork, though, the WhiteWings tied it and took the lead in the bottom of the frame against Andy Noonan (3-2) with one out as Ericnardo Padilla singled and Bub Bergstrom followed with a single. Padilla went for third and Rodney Medina's throw got away, allowing Padilla to score and Bergstrom to go to second. Sam McLain followed with an RBI-single to tie the game. After a walk to Miguel Peguero, Angel Rocha came in and walked Ryan Fox before get Brian Nichols to hit a grounder to short that could have been a double play. Nichols beat out the relay throw, though, allowing McLain to score to give the WhiteWings the lead.

Derek Bennett finished up with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth to pick up his 20th save.

The WhiteWings and Coyotes play game three of four tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Maximino de la Cruz (6-7) is expected to face Bryan Heaston (3-4).
