Low-scoring game ends up with Broncos up 4-2 over Dillas

LAREDO, TX - Offense was not much of an issue on Monday night, but the Amarillo Dillas could not score enough in a 4-2 loss to the Laredo Broncos at Veteran's Field. The loss assured the Dillas would not make the 2007 United League playoffs.

Taylor Allen (9-7) got the loss despite seven solid innings in giving up two earned runs, seven hits and six strikeouts. Broncos starter Benny Cepeda (3-4) got the win in seven innings of work as he gave up only one earned run and eighth hits while striking out seven. Laredo closer Brian Daly got his third save with two innings of scoreless relief.

With the bases loaded in the first inning, Jack Chapman was hit by a pitch to score Carlos Figueroa from third for a 1-0 lead. Laredo would respond with an unearned in the first to tie the game 1-1.

Amarillo retook the lead in the second as Josh Ashton singled, Ryan Crespi doubled and Jordan Ramos hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Ashton to move the Dillas up by a run. The Broncos came back to tie in the third Javier Lopez singled to score Pedro Lopez which tied the game 2-2.

Laredo took the lead in the fifth as Edwin Maldonado, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on another J. Lopez RBI. The added an insurance run in the eighth with a Juan Lebron RBI single to move the Broncos up 4-2.

Down by two, the Dillas came up in the ninth against Daly, got a leadoff single from Carlos Figueroa but couldn't bring a run across to fall to the Broncos 4-2.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 19-20 on the second-half of the season and 45-44 overall. Tuesday, the Dillas will take on the Broncos for the second game of a four-game series at 7:35 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 7:20 pm on 1010 AM The Canyon and online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
