San Angelo Colts News Release

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana - The San Angelo Colts (20-21) snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday as they defeated the Alexandria Aces (31-11) 5-1 to even the four-game series at one game apiece.

The Aces recorded their only run of the game in their first batter of the contest. The leadoff hitter in the bottom of the first, Tyrone Pendergrass, hit a solo home run to right field off Colts starter Luke Massetti to give the Aces a 1-0 lead.

That was the only run Massetti (8-4) allowed as he picked his eighth win, tying Matt Duff for the team lead in victories. The right-hander lasted seven innings, surrendering eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

San Angelo didn't trail for very long as Josh Allan, who was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, hit a two-out, two-run double in the second to put the Colts ahead 2-1.

The Colts took a 4-1 advantage in the fourth and knocked out Aces starter Josue Matos, who fell to 0-1 with the loss in just his second outing with Alexandria. Allan hit another two-out double to score Andres Rodriguez, who doubled to begin the frame. Allan then came home on an RBI single by Ronnie Gaines, who also committed his first error of the season in the game.

The Colts scored an unearned run in the fifth as Jason Crosland singled home Josh Hollingsworth, who reached on a two-base error by third baseman Bryan Sabatella to begin the inning.

Colts closer Chace Vacek picked up his ninth save since he recorded the final out of the eighth-when the tying run was on deck-and threw a scoreless ninth to seal the win.

San Angelo turned two double plays on the night and also escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the sixth as Massetti retired Wilson Burwell and Eddie Fitzpatrick on back-to-back pop-ups.

The Colts continue this four-game series in Alexandria with game three against the Aces at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15. The Colts are battling the Aces for seven straight games, as the two teams will also square off in the Colts' final home series from Friday, August 17 through Sunday, August 19.
