WhiteWings Play More Long Ball in Loss

San Angelo, TX - David Fowler, Ryan Fox and Carl Johnson all hit home runs for the Harlingen WhiteWings (20-57) in a 9-5 loss to the San Angelo Colts (48-28) tonight at Foster Field.

After hitting three home runs yesterday, the WhiteWings continued to play long ball in the first against Brian Henschel (10-3). With one out, David Fowler hit his eighth home run of the season. One out later, Ryan Fox hit his 15th and third in the last two games.

The Colts got one back in the bottom of the inning against Miguel Sosa. With one out, Tyrone Pendergrass reached on a bunt-single. Jose Torres followed with a single. One out later, Aaron Cone hit an RBI-single to make it 2-1.

With two outs in the third, Pendergrass singled and Torres drew a four-pitch walk. Andres Rodriguez followed with an RBI-single, moving to second on a bobble in leftfield. Cone followed with a walk. On ball four, Carl Johnson threw down to second to second to try to pick off Rodriguez. The throw got away from Amadeo Zazueta, allowing Torres to score, making it 3-2 Colts.

The WhiteWings tied it in the top of the fourth. Fox was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on a wild pickoff throw. A David Cardona single moved Fox to third. One out later, Kevin Griffin hit an RBI-single to tie the game 3-3.

Pendergrass led off the fifth with a bunt single and Torres followed with a single. Rodriguez hit an RBI-single, moving Torres to third. A wild pitch scored Torres, making it 5-3.

With two outs in the seventh, Joel Gonzalez walked on a 3-2 pitch. Johnson followed with a home run over the clubhouse beyond the left field wall, his second of the season and in as many nights, tying the game 5-5.

The Colts took the lead back against Bobby Darling (1-6) in the seventh. With two outs, Bryan Frichter drew a four-pitch walk and Wyn Diggs drew a five-pitch walk. Charley Belew followed with an RBI-single to make it 7-5.

The Colts added some insurance in the eighth by batting around. Pendergrass led off with an infield single and moved to second when the throw went into right field. A fly ball moved Pendergrass to third, causing Darling to intentionally walk Rodriguez to set-up the double play. Lefty Rhett Barber came into face the lefty Cone, but walked him to load the bases. Jason Landreth followed with an RBI-single. One out later, Diggs and Belew drew RBI-walks to make it 9-5.

The WhiteWings travel to Amarillo for the first game of a three-game series against the Dillas tomorrow night at 7:05. Right-hander Armando Casas (0-1) will face right-hander Marcos Castillo (8-6).
