Harlingen, TX - On Caleb Balbuena's first day as manager, the Amarillo Dillas (28-18) launched three home runs to beat the Harlingen WhiteWings (16-31) 7-3 tonight at Harlingen Field.
In the top of the first, Jorge Lugo walked Jonathan Reynoso and gave up a single to Keith Brachold. After a double-steal as Gary Schneidmiller struck out, Danny Bravo hit an RBI-ground out to make it 1-0 Dillas.
The WhiteWings' first four hitters against Ronald Lowe (3-0) mirrored the Dillas' first four. Kevin Griffin led off with a walk and stole second. Bub Bergstrom followed with a single to move Griffin to third. A wild pick-off thrown sent Griffin home and Bergstrom to second. A wild pitch moved Bergstrom to third. He scored on one-out ground out by Brian Nichols to make it 2-1.
In the third, Terry Roblez led off with a walk and Nichols follwed with a single. Two outs later, Amadeo Zazueta hit an RBI-single to make it 3-1.
Bravo and A.J. Johnson led off the fourth with solo home runs to tie the game at 3-3. It was Bravo's ninth and Johnson's 12th.
Johnson led off the sixth with his third home run of the series, this time against Angel Cordero (1-4), to make it 4-3.
In the top of the seventh with two outs, Gary Schneidmiller and Bravo hit back-to-back singles. Johnson followed with an RBI-single to make it 5-3.
In the top of the ninth with two outs, Brachold singled and Schneidmiller walked. After a wild pitch advanced the runners, Bravo hit a two-run single to make it 7-3.
The WhiteWings and Dillas play game three of this three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Juan Jimenez (2-2) will face right-hander Marcos Castillo (5-2).
