Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

LAREDO, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes' (20-27) four game winning streak was snapped as they fell to the Laredo Broncos (23-24) 2-1Monday night at Veterans Field. Miguel Martinez (4-3) pitched well to win but made one mistake that cost him the chance to win. Martinez threw six innings allowing two runs on four hits and striking out five. Andy Schon, who threw a complete game shut out last time out against the Coyotes, matched Martinez's numbers throughout most of the game. Schon threw six innings allowing one run on eight hits getting his fifth win of the year as the Coyotes struggled to find a rhythm against him. The Coyotes finally figured Schon out in the top of the sixth inning as the first three hitters got on base to load the bases with nobody out. After one out, Logan Wood walked to score the first run of the game and to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead. The Coyotes could not add any more runs in the inning after Daryl Jones was thrown out at home plate after Alex Entrekin flied out to right field. The Broncos answered back in the bottom of the sixth inning after a two out walk by Edgard Clemente. Luany Sanchez hit the first pitch he saw from Martinez and hit a two run home run to deep left field that gave the Broncos a 2-1 advantage.

The Coyotes had an opportunity to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning after back-to-back hits by Angelo Fermin and Eric Gonzalez. With runners on the corners, second baseman Gary Roche lined out to left field and then Robert Matlock hit into a double play to end the inning. The play at first on the double play was a very close call and could have tied the game but it ended the inning instead. The Coyotes and Broncos will play the finale of their three game series Tuesday night at Veterans Field with the first pitch scheduled at 7:35 p.m. Carlos Jan (1-0) will face Sean Donlin (1-2) in his second start of the year for the Coyotes.
