San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - The game was see-sawing back and forth on Monday night, with the Alexandria Aces answering every San Angelo Colts run. But San Angelo, who had scored just three runs in its last two games, had the bases loaded and nobody out in a 3-3 game.
This time, Wyn Diggs reversed the Colts' fortune, blasting a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth, the fourth by the Colts this year, off the scoreboard in right-center, as San Angelo scored in four straight innings to cruise by the Aces 9-6 in front of 1,805 at Foster Field.
San Angelo (27-20) got on the board first against Aces starter Robbie Wooley (0-1). In the first, Tyrone Pendergrass led off with a bunt single, and moved to second on a walk to John Anderson. Then Jose Torres grounded out to move up both runners, and Andres Rodriguez brought home Pendergrass with an RBI groundout to short.
The Colts added another run in the fourth, again getting two groundouts to move up and then score Torres, who led off with a double. But Alexandria (26-20) tied it up in the fifth off Colts starter Frank James, getting four hits in the span of five batters. The Colts retook the lead right back in the bottom of the frame, as Torres brought home Charley Belew with an RBI single.
But the Aces again fought back, with a two-out RBI single from Luis Guance off reliever Ryan Mulle (2-2), which gave James a no-decision, in the top of the sixth. The lefty was in search of a win in his third straight start, but ended up with a no-decision, allowing three runs on nine hits, striking out seven in 5.2 innings. Mulle did not allow a run of his own in 1.1 innings to pick up the win.
In the bottom of the sixth, Aaron Cone and Jason Crosland led off with walks. Aces manager Ricky VanAsselberg considered going to the bullpen, but left Wooley in to give up a single to Bryan Frichter. Then Wooley was pulled and Charlie Foster came in, and Diggs untied the game for good. San Angelo got one more in the frame, and added another in the seventh, as Frichter hit his sixth long ball of the year.
Notes: Mitch Lively allowed a run in the eighth on two hits, his first hits or runs given up as a Colt...Diggs' homer was his third of the year...The Colts are now 3-0 on their Sure Win Mondays, sponsored by Sherwin Williams. Had San Angelo lost any of its Monday home games, all fans would have received free tickets to the next Monday game at Foster Field...Torres batted third for the first time all year, as Frichter hit seventh.
The Colts finish their series with Alexandria at Foster Field on Tuesday, July 1, at 7:05 p.m. After the game, all females 18 and over are invited onto the field for the Diamond Dig, sponsored by Legend Jewelers. The lucky winner will find and keep a one-karat diamond pendant buried under the infield. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587. All Colts games are broadcast live on "Cool 100" - KCLL 100.1 FM and online at the Colts' official website, www.sanangelocolts.com, which is updated daily with the latest team news.
