
Broncos hold on for win

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos got 1 big hit which led them to a victory over the Edinburg Coyotes by the score of 2-1 on Monday night in Laredo at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue their 6 game home stand, against the Edinburg Coyotes on Tuesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
For the 2nd time in 3 games, the Broncos were in a pitchers duel. Andy Schon who had tossed a complete game shutout for Laredo in his last start against the Coyotes was on fire once again. Through 4 innings he had only allowed a walk and a hit to Robert Matlock. Coyotes starter Miguel Martinez also was throwing well. He had only given up 3 hits to the Broncos in those innings and was matching Schon pitch for pitch.
Schon ran into some trouble in the top of the 5th inning. With 2 outs, he gave up a singles to Alex Entrekin and Angelo Fermin. Then a walk to Eric Gonzalez loaded the bases. However, Schon would get Gary Roche to strike out to end the inning, keeping the score tied at 0.
The Coyotes would get on the board in the top of the 6th inning. Robert Matlock led off the inning with a single and went to 3rd on a double by Daryl Jones. Mayobanex Santana would then hit an infield single to load the bases. Schon would get Amado German to pop out for the 1st out, but then walked Logan Wood to force in a run. Then Alex Entrekin hit a fly ball that was caught by Dwayne White, who threw out Daryl Jones trying to score for the big double play and keeping the score 1-0.
The Broncos would answer in their half of the 6th. With 2 outs Edgard Clemente would walk. Luany Sanchez would follow with a home run, his 11th of the season. That gave Laredo a 2-1 leave after 6 innings.
Schon would run into trouble again in the 7th inning. Angelo Fermin started the inning off with a double. That was followed by a single by Eric Gonzalez putting runners on the corners. Dan Sausville would come into the game to try to get out of the inning. The first man he faced Gary Roche would fly out for the 1st out. Sausville would then get Robert Matlock to hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning, and keep the Broncos 2-1 lead.
Schon would be in line for the win after his 6 innings of work. He gave up 1 run, on 8 hits, he walked 3, and struck out 5. Miguel Martinez also pitched well in his 6 innings of work. He gave up 2 runs, on 4 hits, he walked 4, and struck out 5.
Rusty Jones would then come in for the Broncos to pitch the 8th inning and he got all 3 batters he faced. David Wasylak would come into the game in the 9th to try to nail down the save. With 1 out, Alex Entrekin reached base on an error by Eric Padilla. That was followed by a walk to Angelo Fermin. But, Wasylak would strike out Eric Gonzalez and get Gary Roche to ground out, and give the Broncos the victory by a score of 2-1.
The Broncos scored 2 runs on 4 hits and committed 1 error, while the Coyotes scored 1 run on 8 hits and committed 0 errors.
The Broncos improve their record to 23-24 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday night when they play game 3 of a 3 game set against the Edinburg Coyotes at Veterans Field at 7:35.
