WhiteWings Lose on Walk-Off Hit in Amarillo

Amarillo - Carlos Figueroa hit a walk-off two-run single with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings fell to the Amarillo Dillas 11-10 Thursday at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Figueroa's hit came against Anderson Garcia (1-1), he recorded his first blown save as well.

That made a winner of Ramon Geronimo (2-0), who pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.

The WhiteWings (12-10) jumped on Richard Jessup right away. With one out, Domenic Di Ricco drew a seven-pitch walk, Salvdaor Paniagua singled and Joel Roa hit an RBI-double. Arlon Quiroz followed with an RBI-ground out and Eric Gonzalez hit an RBI-single to make it 3-0.

The Dillas (12-10) responded against David Cross in the bottom of the second when Jermel Lomack hit a two-out RBI-single to make it 3-1.

The WhiteWings scored for runs in the top of the third. Quiroz and Gonzalez led off with singles, followed by an RBI-double by Kevin Griffin. One out later, Roberto Rodriguez hit a two-run single. Rodriguez took off for second while Javis Diaz walked. The throw was made and went into centerfield, allowing, Rodriguez to move to third, from where he scored when Diaz was caught stealing during the next at-bat, getting into the rundown long enough to prevent a throw home, making it 7-1.

The Dillas responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. With one out, Carlos Figueroa tripled, Daryl Jones hit an RBI-double and Stephen Doulgas hit an RBI-single. Doulgas moved to second on the throw home and stole third. One out later, TJ Warren hit an RBI-single. Brian Bueno singled and Lomack walked to load the bases and Adam De La Garza was hit to force in a run. Joaquin Rodriguez followed with a two-run double to make it 7-7.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Douglas tripled against Michael Barbosa, Alberto Cruz hit an RBI-double, and one out later, Bueno hit an RBI-single to make it 9-7 Dillas.

That was it against Barbosa, who struck out four in four and one-third innings, his longest professional outing.

With one out in the top of the sixth, Paniagua singled against Joseph Muro and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Quiroz hit a two-out RBI infield-single to make it 9-8.

Griffin led off the top of the seventh with a seven-pitch walk. One out later, Rodriguez hit his first home run of the season to make it 10-9 WhiteWings.

The WhiteWings visit the San Angelo Colts for the first of four on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Luis Montano (2-1) is expected to face left-hander Aaron Cuningham (1-2).
