Josh Collazo's Grand Slam Helps Colts Beat Broncos

June 17, 2010 - United League Baseball (ULB)
San Angelo Colts News Release

After a pitching duel the night before, Wednesday night's game had a similar making with the team's aces going for both squads as Ezequiel Astacio (2-3) and Santo Hernandez (2-2) went at it. Both were also one two in the ULB strikeout race coming in. Astacio turned out to be the better man in a Colts 9-6 win. The game had a similar start much like the night before as most of the scoring came in the first few innings.

The game started with a Ronnie Gaines single, one of three hits Gaines had on the evening. After Mark Ramos walked Josh Collazo would double home a run, which was just the beginning of a big night for Collazo. With the score 1-0, a wild pitch brought home Ramos and a two out RBI double by Tyler Goodro made it 3-0 San Angelo. The Colts would give a run back right away as they have done a lot this season, when Laredo got one back in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1.

The Colts would pour it on in the top of the second scoring six times highlighted by Josh Collazo's first homerun of the year a grand slam (the third for the Colts this season) giving him 5 RBIs on the night to make the score 7-1. San Angelo scored twice more that inning on an Adam Hale RBI double and a Mike Pettibone single totaling six runs in all in the second to take at commanding 9-1 lead. That would be all for former ULB All-Star Santo Hernandez as San Angelo knocked him out of the game after two. Astacio allowed two more runs in the bottom of the second on a Steve Bravler RBI single that drove in a pair to make it 9-3.

Much like the night before it was zeros until almost the end, when Laredo added three in the eighth on Kenneth Gilbert's first homerun of the year, a three run shot, to make it interesting at 9-6 but that would be the final. Astacio who did not have his best stuff settled down throwing four shutout innings after the second going six innings in all to picked up the win. Michael Hacker came on in the ninth to pick up his second save of the year.

The Colts will try to even the series on Thursday night in game four against the Broncos the final game of a four game set as San Angelo sends out right-hander Brian Henschel (1-1, 4.97) against righty Juan Peralta (0-0, 4.77) for Laredo. It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 7:20 with the first pitch at 7:35 on 1260 KKSA.
