
WhiteWings Hit Four Home Runs to Down Dillas

Amarillo - Alberto Cruz hit two home runs, Joaquin Rodriguez hit one and Rico Santana hit an inside-the-park home run as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (4-2) handed the Amarillo Dillas (2-4) their worst loss in franchise history, 17-0 tonight at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Taylor Allen (0-2) cruised through the first eight batters, but with two outs in the third, Danny Etkin hit a ground-rule double to open the floodgates. Rodriguez followed with a single, Etkin stopped at the third, but since the throw came to the plate, Rodriguez went to second. A bad throw by catcher Justin Wenger allowed Etkin to score. Agustin Septimo and Santana followed with RBI-triples and Cruz capped off the scoring with his first home run to make it 5-0.
Rodriguez and Septimo led off the fifth with singles and Santana followed with an inside-the-park home run. Cruz then launched his second home run of the game to make it 9-0.
Septimo and Santana led off the sixth with singles against Jesse Rodriguez. One out later, Omar Rosario reached on a two-base error. One out after that, Alfred Joseph hit an RBI-single to make it 11-0.
Rodriguez led off the seventh with his first home run. Septimo followed with a triple and scored on a throwing error by shortstop Willie James on a Cruz ground ball to make it 13-0.
Reymond Cruz (2-0) pitched seven scoreless innings to pick up the win. He struck out three while allowing seven hits. He did not issue any walks.
The WhiteWings added four runs in the ninth against Coby Mavroulis. Etkin, Rodriguez, Septimo and Santana started the inning with singles. Cruz followed by getting hit by a pitch. Casey Allen picked up his first professional RBI with a ground out. One out later, Joseph reached on an error, allowing Santana to score to cap the scoring.
The WhiteWings and Dillas play game three of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Right-hander Sendy Vasquez (0-1) will face left-hander Dustin Taylor (0-1).
