Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners (4-2) lost their second straight game to the Coastal Bend Thunder (3-3) with a 6-3 loss Tuesday night at the Fairgrounds Field.

Pedro Flores (0-1) made the start for the Roadrunners and through six and two thirds innings dominated the Thunder but picked up the loss after allowing four runs on four hits while striking out three.

In the top of the second inning, the Roadrunners scored on a double steal attempt that allowed Angel Reyes to come in from third while Amado German was thrown out at second base which made the score 1-0.

In the top of the third inning, Bryon Smith added another run on the scoreboard with an RBI groundout that scored Vincent Blue from third giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage.

The Thunder got to Flores in the bottom of the sixth inning when Mike Goss hit into an RBI fielder's choice that scored Casey Gordon from third which cut the Roadrunners lead in half. Amadeo Zazueta then tied the ball game at two with an RBI double to deep left field.

The offense for the Thunder kept their momentum going in the bottom of the seventh inning as they scored four runs with one swing of the bat. After Flores was taken out of the game after a throwing error, Bryan Heaston then came in and walked one hitter to load the bases. Manny Mejia then hit a grand slam that gave the Thunder the lead for the first time in the ball game with a score of 6-2.

The Roadrunners scored in the top of the ninth as they tried to make the game a little more interesting. Carlos Hereaud had an RBI double that scored Robert Matlock from second base but that would be all the scoring the Roadrunners would do in the ninth inning. Ferdin Tejada stopped the comeback attempt for the Roadrunners as he earned his second save of the season.

The Roadrunners and Thunder play the third game of the series on Wednesday night at Fairgrounds Field with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m. Eric Montoya will take the hill as he tries to put an end to the two-game losing streak for the Roadrunners.
