WhiteWings Explode for 13 Runs, Down Colts

SAN ANGELO - Behind 13 runs on 18 hits, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings defeated the San Angelo Colts 13-7 on Wednesday night at Foster Field.

Behind the offensive outburst, the WhiteWings (42-29) move two games behind first-place San Angelo (44-27).

The big offensive night started in the second inning when the WhiteWings exploded for eight runs as they took a lead they never relinquished.

Gabriel Ortiz started the big second inning with an RBI single to score the WhiteWings' first run. From there, the Wings recorded four straight hits to bring home five more runs to take a 6-3 lead. Welington Dotel and Alexis Hernandez capped off the big inning with RBIs of their own to provide an 8-3 lead for the visitors. Overall, the 'Wings recorded eight hits in the inning as they took a sizable 8-3 lead.

The Colts responded in the fourth, getting two runs back to cut the deficit to three, trailing 8-5. Mark Ramos brought home a run on an RBI groundout. An error on the throw home brought in their second run.

Yet that was as close as the Colts got to catching the WhiteWings as Alexis Oliveras extended the the lead in the fifth when he hit a two-run homerun - his first as a WhiteWing - to take a 10-5 lead.

The WhiteWings closed the night by putting up two more homeruns, including a two-run blast from David Peralta - his 17th of the year - to give the WhiteWings 13 runs on the night.

Eddie Dennis Jr. (2-1, 7.29 ERA) is credited with the win while Brian Henschel (7-6, 5.52 ERA) gets charged with the loss.

The WhiteWings try to take the series from the Colts on Thursday night as Chase Davenport (5-5, 4.81 ERA) is expected to take the mound against Logan Williamson (10-1, 4.42 ERA).
