Edmonton Capitals News Release

Wailuku, HI - The Edmonton Capitals wrapped up their nine-game series in Hawaii against Maui Na Koa Ikaika on Tuesday night, but were unfortunately unable to finish the trip on a high note, as they ended up losing 4-1.

The Caps only managed one run in the low-scoring affair, and it came in the fourth on a run driven in by shortstop Enrique Cruz. Second baseman Matt Rogelstad, right fielder Brent Metheny and third baseman Carlos Duncan also chipped in with one hit each, but those were the only four hits the team generated in the game.

Picking up the victory on the mound for Maui on Tuesday was Eri Yoshida, who is the only woman currently playing professional baseball in the United States. With five innings pitched, the Japanese knuckleballer kept the Caps at bay and only gave up four hits and the lone run to record her first career victory. Gered Mochizuki was the offensive star for Maui, hitting a triple and two doubles and scoring two runs.

Daryl Arreola got the start for the Caps and pitched six innings that saw him surrender six hits and three runs, only two of which were earned. Jorge Vasquez and Tom Boleska each tossed an inning of relief for the Caps, giving up two hits and one run combined.

With the loss in the final game of the Maui road trip, the Caps drop to a 42-28 record on the North American League season, which puts them three games back of the North Division leading Calgary Vipers, who are currently on a six-game winning streak.

The Caps make their return home to Edmonton this Friday at 7 p.m. to open a six-game series against Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions. The series opener is another Fireworks Friday presented by 92.5 JOE FM with a spectacular fireworks display scheduled immediately after the final out.

The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer, featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Flex packs are available in multiples of eight for $48 less than day-of-game pricing. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
