Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas pitchers had no answer for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on Wednesday night as the WhiteWings powered out a United League-record 25 runs for a 25-11 shellacking in front of 4,142 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Ronald Lowe (2-1) got the loss, giving up 10 runs through five innings of work. WhiteWings reliever Miguel Matos (2-0) got the win, coming in relief and went three-and-two-thirds.
The WhiteWings took their first lead of the series in the first inning as Javis Diaz led off the game with a 1-1 flyball to left field that was carried by the wind over the wall for the solo homerun. Rio Grande Valley added more in the second with five runs off seven singles and would score a run on a Diaz RBI single for a 7-0 lead.
Amarillo would fight back with two runs in the third as Jermel Lomack singled and scored on a Joaquin Rodriguez sacrifice fly. Adam De La Garza scored on a Carlos Figueroa RBI single as well. In the fourth, the Dillas scored two more on a Lomack RBI single and a De La Garza RBI double for a 7-4 score.
Rio Grande Valley added three in the fifth with a bases loaded triple by Santiago Paniagua for a six-run lead. In the bottom half of the fifth, following a Figueroa double, Alberto Cruz hit a long fly ball down the right field line that left the park for his third homerun and a 10-6 deficit.
The WhiteWings brought another two runs across in the sixth to push the score back to six, while the Dillas scored three more in the sixth, to pull within three.
In the seventh, Rio Grande Valley brought across eight runs and eight hits, bringing 11 batters to the plate for an 11-run lead. They added five more in the eighth, including a Diaz double which gave him the ULB's first six hit game and the second cycle after fellow WhiteWing Omar Bramasco in 2007.
The runs in the eighth pushed the deficit to 16. Amarillo scored twice in the ninth to end the game 25-11.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 11-10, while the WhiteWings improve to 12-9. Thursday, Amarillo will take on the WhiteWings for the final game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline by visiting www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
