Diaz Sets Records, WhiteWings Break United League Record for Runs Scored

Amarillo - Javis Diaz had the first six-hit game in United League Baseball history while also hitting the second cycle in both league and team history as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings set a new league record for runs scored by beating the Amarillo Dillas 25-11 Wednesday at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

The other cycle in both league and team history was in June 2007 when Omar Bramasco did it for the WhiteWings (12-9). The previous record for runs scored was 23 by the Dillas in 2007. The previous record for runs scored by the WhiteWings since joining the United League was 17, set last season.

The WhiteWings batted around three times and had 30 hits.

The WhiteWings took their first lead of the series against Ronald Lowe (2-1) when Diaz hit a leadoff home run, his second of the season, to make it 1-0.

The WhiteWings sent 10 batters to the plate in the second to takea 6-0 lead. Eric Gonzlaez and Kevin Griffin led off with singles. After a sacrifice bunt, Jose Sanchez and Diaz hit RBI-singles and Kevin Dietrich hit a two-run single. One out later Roa hit an RBI-single to cap the scoring.

With Roberto Rodriguez at second and two outs in the top of the third, Diaz hit an RBI-single to make it 7-0.

The Dillas (11-10) responded against Greg Conrad in the bottom of the inning. Jermel Lomack singled and Adam De La Garza reached on an error. Joaquin Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly and Carlos Figueroa hit an RBI-single to make it 7-2.

Alberto Cruz led of the bottom of the fourth with a walk. One out later Stephen Douglas reached on an error. One out after that, Lomack hit an RBI-single and De La Garza hit an RBI-double to make it 7-4.

The WhiteWings loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth and Salvador Paniagua hit a bases-clearing triple to make it 10-4.

Cruz hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-6.

Arlon Quiroz led off the sixth with a double against Chris Ingoglia. One out later, Griffin singled, Rodriguez hit an RBI-ground out and Sanchez hit an RBI-single to make it 12-6.

The Dillas scored three runs (two earned) against Miguel Matos (2-0) in bottom of the sixth to get within 12-9.

The WhiteWings responded with eight runs in the seventh off of Zachary Cole, including a three-run home run by Paniagua, his league-leading seventh of the season.

Thie WhiteWings added another five runs in the eighth, including Sanchez's first home run, a three-run shot.

The Dillas scored two in the bottom of the ninth against Anderson Garcia to complete the scoring.

The WhiteWings and Dillas play in Amarillo for the final time this season on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander David Cross (1-2) is expected to face right-hander Richard Jessup (0-1).
