Broncos Give Up Nine Runs in Two Innings; Fall to the Colts 9-6

The Broncos (8-13) looked to continue their three game wininng streak against the Colts (9-12) and win their first series of 2010. Santo Hernandez (2-2) made his fifth start of the season against Ezequiel Astacio (3-2), who was making his fifth start for San Angelo.

Hernandez immediately got into trouble. A lead off single, a walk and an RBI double by Josh Collazzo put the Colts up 1-0 three batters in the game. A wild pitch by Hernandez plated Mark Ramos, who walked and another RBI double by Tyler Goodro gave the Colts a 3-0 lead after just half an inning.

In the bottom of the first against Astacio, Jason Diaz walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Ryann Flynn grounded out that moved Diaz to third and Kenny GIlbert picked RBI number 17 with a ground out and the score was 3-1 Colts.

Hernandez ran into trouble again in the second. Trey Carter singled to start things off. After a Butch Ballez line out, Ronnie Gaines singled. Mark Ramos then singled to load the bases and Josh Callazzo hit a grand slam to put the Colts up 7-1. Jason Crosland then walked and Adam Hale hit an RBI double to make the score Colts 8, Broncos 1. Mike Pettibone rounded out the scoring with an RBI single to make the score 9-1 Colts.

The Broncos mustered another two runs in the bottom of the second. Thennis walked to start the inning and with one out Fowler walked and Jake Wells walked to load the bases. Steve Bralver, making his second start of the season for the Broncos and lined his first hit into left field for a two run single to make the score Colts 9, Broncos 3.

9-3, the score would stay until the bottom of the eighth. With one out Diaz walked and Flynn singled to bring up Kenny GIlbert. Gilbert weas 0-4 up to this point and his five game hitting streak was on the line. Gilbert hit his first home run of the season to make the score 9-6 Colts.

Micheal Hacker came on in the bottom of the ninth and faced four batters en route to picking up his second save of the year.

Hernandez pitched two innings, gave up nine hits, nine runs (all earned) two walks, and two strike outs.

The Broncos bullpen came through pitching six shut out innings against the Colts to give the Broncos a chance.
