Colts Drop Second Straight To Lardeo In Pitching Duel

June 16, 2010 - United League Baseball (ULB)
San Angelo Colts News Release

Colts starter Chandler Barnard coming off his first start of the year for San Angelo would take a big step forward getting back into the form Colts fans have seen before. However despite Barnard's terrific outing on Tuesday night, San Angelo would lose the second straight game to Laredo in a pitching duel 2-1.

Laredo struck first in the bottom of the second. After the Bronco's Doug Thomas beat out an infield hit, Gabe Memmert would follow with an RBI double to make it 1-0. The Colts would counter right away with a run in the top of the third without the benefit of a hit on three walks, a wild pitch and a passed ball that scored Butch Ballez and the game was tied at 1-1.

The tie was broken quickly as Laredo came right back in the bottom of the inning scoring another run in the third. Leadoff hitter Jason Diaz reached on a rare Butch Ballez error the only miscue of the game for the Colts that would be costly allowing Diaz to go all the way to second. Ryann Flynn laid down a sac bunt to move Diaz to third and would score on Kenneth Gilbert's ground out to first and the Broncos were in front 2-1.

That would be it for the scoring the rest of the way for both squads. The Colts Chandler Barnard (0-1) went seven and a third innings allowing two runs (only one earned), on six hits, walking three, while striking out five and was the hard luck loser. His opponent Dimitri Camareno (1-2) went six innings, allowed just one run, on seven hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Both bullpens were equally as good and for the second straight night Franklyn Gracesqui (2) picked up the save.

After dropping the first two games of this series the Colts and Broncos go at it again in game three of this series on Wednesday night. San Angelo sends out right-hander Ezequiel Astacio (2-2, 4.15) against fellow righty Santo Hernandez (2-1, 3.91) for Laredo. It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 7:20 with the first pitch at 7:35 on 1260 KKSA.
