
Roadrunners Edge Thunder 8-7

The Edinburg Roadrunners scored five runs, including a two-run home run by Alexis Hernandez in the fourth inning to top the Coastal Bend Thunder 8-7 Tuesday night at Fairgrounds Field.
The Thunder (7-13) got on the board first in the second inning off Edinburg (15-5) starter Mike Reeves after Manny Mejia doubled, stole third, then scored on a base hit by Ron Fenwick to put Coastal Bend up 1-0.
Edinburg posted five runs in the fourth inning starting with a Wilson Batista single, followed by an error by Thunder third baseman Leivi Ventura that scored Batista and advanced Ambiorix Concepcion to second. Vincent Blue then walked followed by a Carlos Hereaud single which scored Concepcion to bring up Robert Matlock who singled to score Blue. Alexis Hernandez notched a two-run home run to end the inning with the Roadrunners on top 5-1.
Ventura and Brian Nichols hit back-to-back home runs off Reeves in the fourth to put the Thunder within two, but Edinburg scored three runs in the eighth to extend their lead 8-3.
The Thunder battled back in the eighth off Roadrunners reliever Aaron Guerra and posted four runs, but Edinburg held their lead to take the win 8-7.
Reeves put in six innings of work allowing three runs on eight hits, while striking out seven.
Coastal Bend and Edinburg face each other again tomorrow in game three of the series with Wardell Starling taking the mound for the Roadrunners.
