
WhiteWings cruz past Roadrunners

Harlingen - Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (8-8) starting pitcher Reymond Cruz (3-1) struck out seven while allowing two runs on six hits over eight innings to beat the Edinburg Roadrunners (7-9) 5-2 tonight at Harlingen Field.
The WhiteWings win the four-game series three games-to-one and are now winners of three-in-a-row.
The WhiteWings started off the game the same we that they ended last night's, by loading the bases on walks with two outs. This time, Welinson Baez came up and hit a two-run single against Pedro Flores (0-2) to score Rico Santana and Alberto Cruz.
Bryon Smith led off the top of the second with a home run against Cruz to get the Roadrunners within 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Septimo led off with an infield single and moved to third on a single by Santana, who moved to second on the throw. Cruz hit an RBI-single, Jonathan Poterson hit an RBI-ground out and Welinson Baez hit an RBI-triple to make it 5-1.
Flores settled down after that, and allowed just one more base runner over the rest of the game, as he pitched eight innings whole allowing five runs on five hits and five walks to go with six strikeouts.
The Roadrunners got another run in the eighth when Amado German hit a one out single, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a double by Vincent Blue.
Julio Santana pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.
The WhiteWings welcome the Laredo Broncos into town for the first game of a four-game series at 7:05 p.m. at Harlingen Field. Right-hander Sendy Vasquez (0-2) is expected to face right-hander Gregorio Martinez (1-1).
