Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners (7-9) could not overcome a five-run deficit as they were defeated 5-2 at the hands of the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (8-8) Saturday night at Harlingen Field.

Pedro Flores (0-2) picked up the loss after allowing five runs in the first three innings. He scattered five hits through his eight innings of work and struck out eight. Flores did not allow a hit after the third inning but the lead proved too much to overcome.

The WhiteWings scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run single off the bat of Welinson Baez that made the score 2-0.

In the top of the second inning Bryon Smith hit his second homerun of the season which put the score at 2-1.

Rio Grande Valley scored three more runs in the bottom of the third inning which extended their lead to 5-1.

The Roadrunners were held scoreless until the top of the eighth inning. Vincent Blue hit an RBI double to deep right field that allowed Amado German to score from second base which made the score 5-2.

Reymond Cruz (3-1) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven in eight innings pitched for his third win of the season.

Julio Santana worked a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save.

The Roadrunners head home to open a four-game series against the San Angelo Colts on Sunday evening at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Eric Montoya (2-0) will start the first game of an eight game home stand for the Roadrunners with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
