San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas---For the first time this year, the San Angelo Colts scored double-digit runs in their 15-2 victory against the Coastal Bend Thunder. This win keeps San Angelo (11-5) at the top of the United League standings and drops Coastal Bend (8-8) three games behind the pace.
Colts All-Decade starter, Brian Henschel, allowed one earned run in eight innings of run. That score came on a solo homer by Leivi Ventura in the eighth inning.
The Thunder pushed a run across in the first as outfielder, Mike Goss, singled; Ventura reached on catchers' interference and Manny Mejia blooped a singled to right.
In the bottom of the inning, however, the Colts scored three. Brad Goldsmith, Jason Diaz, Ronnie Gaines and Bryan Frichter all had hits with nobody out to plate the runners. Gaines was the only one who earned an extra-base hit against losing pitcher Francisco Castillo (1-1)
The Colts scored three more in the second and it all began with two outs. Butch Ballez reached on an error by Ventura. Goldsmith singled and Diaz walked to load the bases. Gaines chopped an infield single to account for the first run and Frichter doubled home the other two.
Four San Angelo Colts players collected three hits on the night. Hunter Jobes scored three runs and drove home two for the winning team.
The Colts shift their focus to the Edinburg Roadrunners tomorrow night. That contest is the first of an eight game road trip. It is the first time in the 2009 season that Edinburg and San Angelo will face each other.
Drew Coffey is the projected starter for San Angelo. In his last outing, he did not earn a decision but he pitched five scoreless innings. The game is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Tune in to KCLL 100.1 to follow the game on the radio.
