
WhiteWings' Comeback Falls Short

HARLINGEN - Trailing 9-4 in the sixth inning, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings tried to mount a late comeback against the McAllen Thunder but fell one run short, losing 9-8 Saturday night at Harlingen Field.
Scoring four unanswered runs, the WhiteWings pulled within one run entering the bottom of the ninth. However, the WhiteWings could not get the tying ninth run as Thunder closer Justin Jordan closed the lid on the WhiteWings comeback, retiring all three batters in the bottom of the ninth.
The WhiteWings chipped away at the deficit starting in the sixth inning when Gabriel Ortiz singled home run to bring the Wings within four. Next inning, Eric Gonzalez singled home a run as the WhiteWings trailed 9-6.
In the eighth inning, the WhiteWings pulled to within one as Gabriel Ortiz scored on an error before Wilmer Pino hit home another run, as the WhiteWings trailed 9-8.
However, the WhiteWings could not manage the tying run, ultimately losing 9-8.
The Thunder led throughout the game as they grabbed a 6-0 lead after just two innings. The first three batters of the game all singled to load the bases. Antoin Gray then hit a bases-clearing double to give the Thunder a 3-0 advantage after the first inning.
The Thunder put three more runs on the board in the second inning as the first two batters reached on singles. Michael Lewis made the score 4-0 with an RBI single. An error brought home their fourth run before Zach Mandelblatt hit a sacrifice fly RBI to make it 6-0 in favor of the Thunder.
Juan Cedeño (3-0, 6.32 ERA) is expected to take the mound in the regular season finale against the McAllen Thunder. First pitch is at 6:05 PM.
