Brian's Song

August 27, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas

---Brian Henschel, who would start on Friday night for the Colts, would try for his eighth win of the season before the playoffs begin. Brian would get his fifth complete game of the year which leads the league. However, the Colts right-hander would take the loss as Edinburg wins in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth 3-2.

The Colts scored first on a Daryl Jones (28) homerun to lead off the second and take a 1-0 lead. Edinburg tied it in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Osiel Flores and it was even at 1-1. Brian Henschel and Tim Haines then battled it out for three innings as the game remained the same until the top of the eighth.

The Colts took the lead when Mark Ramos singled, was awarded second on a throwing error, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball to give the Colts a late lead at 2-1. Henschel trying for the complete game win, got into some trouble in the ninth as Stantrel Smith lead off with a single, stole second and went to third on an error by Colts second baseman C.J. Beatty. With runners on the corners and nobody out Brian barred down though, getting Osiel Flores to ground out with the infield in for the first out. The Colts then intentionally walked Robert Matlock to load the bases and try for the double-play. Henschel though got tougher striking out Gabe Memmert for the second out. With a 0-2 count on catcher Derek Marshall, the catcher hit one off the end of the bat into right field that scored Stantrel Smith and R.J. Harris for the w alk-off win 3-2.

Brian Henschel (7-8, 5.03) goes the distance throwing eight and two-thirds, allowing just one earned run in the loss. Starter Tim Haines although he did not factor in the decision for Edinburg went seven innings, allowing one run, while striking out a season high eleven. Aaron Guerra (7-7, 3.60) picks up the win in relief for Edinburg. Game three features Colts southpaw Logan Williamson (11-1, 4.68) against fellow lefty Ryan Falcon (3-0, 0.75). Listen to all the action with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m. on 101.9 "The Fire".
