Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
HARLINGEN- Ruddy Yan and Romulo Ruiz continued their hot hitting and Erinzon Bautista threw 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings defeated the McAllen Thunder 10-4 at Harlingen Field Tuesday night.
Bautista had struggled in recent outings and had been regulated to long relief out of the WhiteWings' bullpen. But the 22-year-old Dominican righthander got Rio Grande Valley (25-19) out of a jam in the top of the second inning by coming in with a 2-1 deficit, one out, and runners on first and third base, then coercing the leadoff and second place hitters in the McAllen (16-29) lineup to ground out.
From there, Bautista (1-0), earned his first victory as a WhiteWing by scattering five hits in through the next four innings and shaving 1.80 runs off his earned run average.
Meanwhile, the Rio Grande Valley bats consistently pounded McAllen's pitching, scoring in every inning but the sixth.
Ruiz put the WhiteWings on top with a one out single in the bottom of the fourth off Demetrius Banks (3-3) to drive in Mario Mercedes, who had two doubles in the game. Ruiz would finish with three RBIs in the game.
Yan, now batting leadoff due to the departure of Francisco Santana with visa issues, collected four hits to extend his hitting streak to eight games while scoring three runs.
Leugim Barroso, who has had multiple hits in five of his last six games, collected three hits and drove in two runs in the eighth with a triple, while Yasser Gomez collected three hits while driving in and scoring a run in a losing cause for McAllen.
The WhiteWings have now won five of six games and are in second place in the North American Baseball League's Southern Division, 1 =C21/2 games out of first. The two teams will meet in the second game of a four game series tonight at Harlingen Field at 7:05 p.m., with Rio Grande Valley's Luis Chirinos (5-3) pitching against fellow righthander Alexei Perez (2-1).
