San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas - Starting pitcher Brett Kennedy tossed a two-hit, complete-game shutout to lead the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to a 4-0 victory over the San Angelo Colts Sunday night at Foster Field.

Kennedy (4-1) was perfect through his first 5 2/3 innings of work. Shortstop Danny Hernandez ended the perfect game bid with a two-out single into shallow centerfield. However, Kennedy retired the next batter he faced to end the inning.

Kennedy struck out a game-high six batters, and allowed just three base runners the entire game. Only one, right fielder Steve Rinaudo, got into scoring position. Rinaudo was left stranded at third following a single, a ground out and a wild pitch.

The WhiteWings scored all of their runs in the middle innings.

They took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, courtesy of an RBI ground out by first baseman Goose Kallunki. Second baseman Roberto Ramirez scored from third on the ground out. Ramirez led the inning off with a single and went from first to third on a throwing error.

An RBI double by right fielder Andrew Deeds made it 2-0 WhiteWings in the fifth. The double scored centerfielder Michael Garcia from first base.

Rio Grande Valley doubled the lead with two more runs in the sixth inning. Ramirez and third baseman Kevin Lusson both scored on an RBI double into left-centerfield by catcher Kieran Bradford.

Colts' starter Corey Frerichs (4-2) took the loss. He gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits in as many innings pitched.

The win improves the WhiteWings to 18-19, while the loss drops San Angelo to 20-17. The Colts have now lost back-to-back games after winning three in a row to begin the home stand.

This series continues Monday night at Foster Field. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
