Colts Lose Third in a Row, 6-3

San Angelo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored five runs in the first two innings, and beat the San Angelo Colts, 6-3, Monday night at Foster Field.

The WhiteWings got on the board right away with two runs in the top of the first. Left fielder Albert Carpen drew a leadoff walk and then scored from third on an RBI single by third baseman Kevin Lusson. Lusson scored two batters later when centerfielder Michael Garcia hit an RBI single.

Two more RBI base hits and a wild pitch in the second inning gave the WhiteWings a comfortable 5-0 lead. Second baseman Roberto Ramirez and first baseman Goose Kallunki hit consecutive RBI singles, and Ramirez then scored from third on the wild pitch. Ramirez went 4-for-5 on the night.

Colts' stater Alex Bates (3-4) was taken out after the wild pitch. He gave up five runs on seven hits in just 1 2/3 innings.

The WhiteWings scored an unearned run in the fourth to build their lead up to 6-0. San Angelo responded with its first run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

First baseman Ryan Hutson hit a one-out double, and then scored on a two-out RBI single by third baseman Jordan Marks. Hutson's run was the only one given up by WhiteWings' starter Ray Hanson.

Hanson (4-3) allowed a run on eight hits, and struck out a game-high six batters in seven innings pitched.

The Colts cut their deficit to three runs in the eighth inning. Centerfielder Dan Evatt doubled and scored on an RBI single by catcher Bubby Williams. Hutson drove in Williams with another RBI base hit.

After the two-run rally, the Colts were shut down by closer Nelson Curry. Curry pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the year.

The win improves the WhiteWings to 19-19, while the loss drops San Angelo to 20-18. This series concludes with a doubleheader Tuesday night beginning at 6:05 p.m.

The Colts are in the middle of an eight-game home stand. After their four-game series against the WhiteWings, they hit the road to play four games against the Fort Worth Cats at LaGrave Field.
