WhiteWings Beat Broncos in Tenth

Laredo - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to take the lead en route to an 8-6 victory over the Laredo Broncos on Friday at Veterans Field.

With two outs against Jonathan Miller (0-1), Javis Diaz reached on an infield single and Kevin Griffin walked. Salvador Paniagua and Joel Roa followed with RBI-singles.

That made a winner of Miguel Matos (1-0), who allowed two runs on two hits while striking out four in four innings of relief.

Michael Barbosa pitched a scoreless bottom of the ten for his fourth save.

The Broncos (3-5) got on the board right away against Stephen Whalen. Jason Diaz reached on an infield-single and scored on a one-out double by Kenny Gilbert. Dustin Spruill followed with his second home run of the season to make it 3-0.

Spruill hit his second home run of the game in the third to make it 4-0.

The WhiteWings (3-5) responded in the top of the fourth against Eric Eden. Arlon Quiroz hit a one-out triple, and one batter later, Kevin Dietrich hit an RBI-single to make it 4-1.

Joel Roa hit a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the fifth, his third in as many games, to bring the WhiteWings within 4-3.

The WhiteWings took the lead in the top of the sixth. With Deitrich on first base and one out, Brad Menadier laced an RBI-double to the left-center field gap. One out later, Aaron Jenikins walked Diaz and hit Griffin to load the bases. Angelo Morales came in and allowed a two-run single to Paniagua that gave the WhiteWings a 6-4 lead.

The Broncos tied the game in the bottom of the seventh against Matos on a one-out RBI-double by Doug Thennis and a sacrifice fly by Gabriel Memmert.

The WhiteWings and Broncos complete this four game series Saturday at 7:35 p.m. Left-hander Greg Conrad (0-1) is expected to face right-hander Dimitri Camareno (0-1).
