Dillas starter dominates in 7-1 shellacking of Roadrunners

EDINBURG, TX - Amarillo Dillas starter Ryan Mitchell followed Thursday's dominant pitching performance from Taylor Allen with one of his own as he went an out short of eight innings, allowing only one runs on seven hits as the Dillas took care of the Edinburg Roadrunners 7-1 at Edinburg Stadium on Friday night.
Mitchell (1-0) faced the minimum of batters through the first four innings, walked only one batter and struck out three. Edinburg starter Mike Reeves (0-1) went five innings, allowed only two hits but three runs, walking three and struck out seven. Amarillo's Stephen Douglas hit his second homerun of the season while Adam De La Garza went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs in the effort.
Both pitchers kept the other teams off the scoreboard until the fourth inning. Amarillo's Joaquin Rodriguez led off with a double, while Alberto Cruz walked to put two runners on for Douglas. The Dillas outfielder stepped in and sent a 1-0 pitch over the outfield fence for a 3-0 Amarillo lead.
Edinburg got on the board in the fifth with an Osiel Flores RBI single, but the Dillas would strike back in the sixth. Cruz led off after getting hit by a pitch, stole second and went to third on a Cory Wine single. Attempting a double steal, Wine went for second and the throw went into the outfield to score Cruz for a three-run lead. Amarillo would add another in the seventh as Jermel Lomack singled, stole second and scored on a De La Garza RBI single for a 5-1 lead.
The Dillas continued scoring in the eighth as Douglas walked, stole second and scored on a TJ Lomack RBI double. In the ninth, Amarillo continued scoring as Lomack singled and scored on a De La Garza RBI double for a 7-1 lead.
Amarillo reliever Dane Little finished off the eighth and ninth to preserve the Dillas six-run win.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 5-4, while the Roadrunners fall to 6-3. Saturday, Amarillo will face off against Edinburg for the final game of a four-game series at 7:05pm.
