Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that they signed outfielder Jose Torres yesterday.
He takes the roster spot of relief pitcher/infielder Mark Ramos, who was deactivated yesterday.
Torres started in centerfield and hit seventh yesterday, going 0-for-2 with two walks. He had been playing in the Mexican minor leagues.
Ramos has seen action in three games, making his professional debut as a pitcher on August 5 in Coastal Bend and getting his first professional hit in his first at-bat on August 10 against San Angelo. He had entered the game as a defensive replacement at second base. Ramos also had a pinch-hitting appearance on August 11.
The WhiteWings are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas. In its fourth season, the United League is in the midst of a great summer with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Harlingen and San Angelo.
