Roadrunners Extend Streak To 11 With Comeback Win

HARLINGEN, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners came from behind to defeat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 9-7 Thursday night at Harlingen Field. The win extends Edinburg's win streak to 11 in a row.

Tim Haines (7-4) picked up his seventh win of the season after he allowed four runs while scattering six hits in five innings of work and striking out three.

The WhiteWings (28-34) got on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly by Brian Nichols that allowed Agustin Septimo to score the first run of the game. Juan Melo followed with an RBI single to right field that drove in Joaquin Rodriguez from third and RBI singles by Juan Cabrera and Jose Torres made the score 4-0 in favor of the WhiteWings.

In the top of the fourth Bryon Smith and Eric Gonzalez were walked with two outs and Osiel Flores followed with an RBI single to right field that drove in Smith from second base. Wilmer Pino hit an RBI single to right field that allowed Gonzalez to score the second run of the inning. Sergio Guerrero followed with an RBI single that drove in Flores making it 4-3 ballgame.

Edinburg (35-27) continued their comeback in the top of the fifth as they sent 10 batters to the plate against the WhiteWings' bullpen. Walks to Hunter Owen and Vincent Blue followed by a single by Smith loaded the bases for Gonzalez who then hit a two-run single to left field that scored Owen and Blue from second and third. Flores followed with another RBI single to right field driving in Smith for the third run of the inning. Pino hit an RBI double to the left field corner and Guerrero followed with an RBI single to right which made the score 8-4 in favor of the Roadrunners.

Welinson Baez led off the bottom of the sixth with a single then came into score on an RBI single by Justin Holloway bringing the score to 8-5.

RGV scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Rico Santana that allowed Rodriguez, who started the inning with a single, to score from first and Melo followed with an RBI single that drove in Santana making it an 8-7 score.

Edinburg scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a fielding error by RGV's shortstop that allowed Nick Aranda to score from third extending the lead to 9-7.

Kelly Casares pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his 11th save of the season ending the game with a final score 9-7 extending Edinburg's streak to 11.

The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the third game of this four-game series Friday night at Harlingen Field. Miguel Martinez (5-4) is expected to face Jose Fragoso (0-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
