San Angelo Colts News Release

Robstown, Texas--- In the 2009 ULB season, San Angelo (40-21) has become the first team to reach 40 wins. The first-place Colts did it in typical Colt fashion with great starting pitching and late inning help form the bullpen to secure a 3-1 victory over the Coastal Bend Thunder (26-34) with a final score of 3-1.

Hank Lanto's three hit night began in the third inning with a one-out single. With two outs in the frame, Butch ballez single pushed Lanto to third. Ronnie Gaines laced a single to left field scoring Ballez, handing the Colts a 1-0 advantage.

San Angelo doubled their lead in the fifth inning. Lanto began the inning with a stand-up triple. Hunter Jobes followed with a single to right field, driving in the Colts back stop.

San Angelo's starter Brian Henschel kept the Thunder off the board until the fifth inning. Runners stood at second and third, with two away. A line drive single to center field scored Kevin Butler. A strong throw from center fielder Jobes and a good tag by Lanto retired Chris Lewis at home plate. Colts held a 2-1 lead.

San Angelo managed an additional run in the top of the ninth inning. With two retired, Josh Collazo doubled down the right field line. Two wild pitches by JJ Trujillo brought home Collazo, the insurance run gave the Colts a 3-1 lead.

Henschel took the mound in the bottom of the ninth inning with a chance to add to his league leading six complete games. Henschel retired the first two hitters, but a single by Manny Mejia ended his campaign. The Colts opted for Tom Martin to pitch to the left-handed hitting Alex Fernandez. A two strike single by Fernandez extended the ballgame; the tying runs were at first and second base. Carlos Rodriguez stepped to the plate as the winning run. Rodriguez drove a pitch deep to right field; a diving, over the shoulder catch by Nick Mahin ended the ballgame and moved the Colts win-streak to two games.

Henschel (9-3) earned his ninth win scattering six hits without allowing an earned run over 8.2 innings. Tom Martin gathered his second save of the season. The loss went to JJ Trujillo (3-2) who went a complete game allowing three earned runs.

San Angelo and Coastal Bend Thunder will continue their four game series tomorrow at Fairgrounds Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. The Kemps pre-game show will begin at 6:50 pm. Listen to all of your Colts action on KCLL COOL 100.1, or online at www.sanangelocolts.com.
