Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Alexandria, LA - The Harlingen WhiteWings (1-0) and Alexandria Aces (0-1) were forced to stop play with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning due to heavy rain and thunderstorms tied 3-3 tonight at Bringhurst Field.

The game will continue at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow night and then the regularly scheduled game will be played.

The WhiteWings were leading 3-2 entering the ninth, but Caleb Balbuena allowed a two-out RBI-single to Luis Guance to score Patrick O'Sullivan who reached on an error. Guance stole second and Madison Edwards had a count of 1-2 on him when the game was stopped due to unplayable field conditions.

Kevin Griffin got things going in the second against Alexis Sosa by hitting a two-run home run after David Fowler reached on an infield single to make it 2-0 WhiteWings.

The Aces finally broke through against Jorge Lugo in the bottom of the sixth when O'Sullivan and Palmer Karr Jr. led off with singles. After a fielder's choice, Edwards hit a sacrifice fly to drive in O'Sullivan and make it 2-1.

Lugo ended up going five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

He was matched pitch for pitch by Sosa, who went eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk while striking out 11.

Neither pitcher would get a decision, though, as the Aces tied the game in the eighth against Dan Ziegler on a Blake Butler RBI-single.

The WhiteWings will and Aces will finish this three-game series tomorrow after this game is completed. Right-hander James Beever makes his WhiteWings debut against right-hander Angel Garcia.
