Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - The bats had a quick start in support of a strong performance by Reggie McClain to lift the Modesto Nuts to a 6-4 victory over the Visalia Rawhide, their second straight win at John Thurman Field.
Reggie McClain (W, 2-2) worked around a walk with a double play in the first to face the minimum in the first two innings. McClain surrendered just a one-out single in the third inning and a walk in the fourth. In his first five frames, McClain had not allowed a run and gave up just the one hit.
Meanwhile, the Nuts (21-26) offense came out of the gates quickly against Rawhide (25-23) starter Emilio Vargas (L, 3-1). After a pair of walks to start the game, Nick Zammarelli drove in the first run with a RBI double. Joe Rizzo followed with a two-out RBI single.
In the second, Tyler Baker started the inning with a triple. He scored on a groundout by Anthony Jimenez. Evan White drove in his first of three runs with a single in the second.
Vargas worked five innings and allowed four runs on five with five strikeouts and three walks.
The Nuts would add on in the sixth. With the bases loaded and the inning extended on an error, White drilled a two-out, two-run single.
McClain exited the game in the seventh inning after allowing a RBI groundout in the sixth and two runs in the seventh.
Seth Elledge (S, 6/6) remains unscored upon in the month of May by working a scoreless ninth with three strikeouts.
Game two of the three-game series against the Rawhide is set for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
